The Political Action Art Auction is a benefit auction to help support the Stop Domain Subsidies organization as well as emerging local artists. Della Badart's Bush and Ascent are a few of the auction options. Stop Domain Subsidies is an organization who's goal is to stop the local government from giving $65 million in tax rebates to the Domain Luxury Mall in NW Austin, which is considered an unfair practice and hurts local Austin small businesses (read more here). The event will be held at the Austin Art Garage 2200 S. Lamar Blvd on 9/13/08 from 6pm-9pm. RSVP at StopDomainSubsidies.com

| Carol Gonzales is best described as an artist, creating art with wild abandon, everyday, everywhere and with every material she can find! Her healthy obsession drives her to recycle other peoples' scraps and endlessly explore technique and application. It is estimated that she has created over 7,000 works of art thus far. Carol has created thousands of original designs for surface design application. She adds detail to her designs using bright or rich colors denoting movement and illusionary as well as textural dimension. Her complex patterns often compliment a simple line-structured foreground. For Carol Gonzales, there are no mistakes. In fact venturing into the unknown and unpredictable results in weird combinations that couldn't have been logically planned out without such exploration. Discovering new ways of doing things has been her challenge as well as an integral part of her creative process. Therefore the unexplored ever awaits...http://www.imagineart.net/carolgonzales.htm

Natural Quilt
The "Natural" Quilt is coming along well. It is my first quilt and I am working with a pattern from December/October 2007 I am using the fabrics from a Surface Design Class I took in the Spring. The class was taught by Kathleen McTee and focused on creating unique designs using handmade stamps, stencils, dyes and silk screens. She has since opened a studio in Austin, Texas and you can find her class schedule at artcloth.com.
I recommend her class to newbies and pros alike; you will all learn lots. |
Bad Art World wants to give to a good cause; so we've set up auctions on E-bay for specific merchandise. 30% of the proceeds will go to Heifer.org. It is a great organization that gives communities a Hand Up by suppling live stock and the knowledge to raise animals and help an entire village or area. It has been our families goal for may years to donate to this great cause. We challenge you to help by going to our Auction and ordering the African and Peace Dove designs. I'll keep a running total of the amount given away here. Pass this information along to friends and family, yelp, digg and blog it down the virtual road. We'd like to give over 5,000, with your help I know we can! dbadart

I am working on a quilt with this gentleman in a study of the "natural" better known as the Afro. I spent lots of time looking for the Afros of the 70's and what I found on line were kids not even born in the 70's with a parody of what they thought an Afro looked like. Don't get me wrong I love the modern fro. If you'd like to see a real afro check out Shaft, The Jefferson's, What's Happening and some news footage from the time. Look for the quilt soon along with drawings, prints and t-shirts of "natural" Study.
